This friendly community has a population of only 4,974 people and 2,251 families. Kensington hosts magnificent views of the Golden Gate bridge and the San Francisco Bay to provide a most satisfying sight to feast your eyes upon.
There are plenty of cool places is Kensington. One of the favorites is Tilden Park. It's full of adventure and fun for the whole family -- kids and adults alike. All year you can enjoy the Animal Farm, the Botanic Gardens, hiking, biking, and the Environmental Education Center. During the summer, Lake Anza is open for your enjoyment, with the Merry-Go-Round and Steam Trains also open during the weekends after Labor Day. Our other favorite is the Blake Gardens. It's a gorgeous eye feast on a 10 acre lot open to the public on the weekdays.
Kensington was named in 1911 when various subdivisions were beginning. In 1920, 226 people lived in Kensington and in 1925, the first elementary school was built and opened. In a matter of ten years the population had boomed to nearly 1,500. The town continues to grow but doesn't boom as much as it did then. The residents find this retaining quiet growth charming and quite appealing.
